Shaking Hands

Presorted Standard Imprint

As of January 10, 2001, all regular rate Presorted, Automation, and Enhanced Carrier Route (ECR) Standard Mail (A) must bear the "Presorted Standard" rate marking or the authorized abbreviation "PRSRT STD".

The "Bulk Rate" and "Blk.Rt." markings are no longer permitted.

Other required markings used to identify automation or specific carrier route rates are not affected by this change.

There are also no changes to the marking requirements for Nonprofit and Nonprofit ECR Standard Mail (A) mailings. Those mailings must still use the basic marking "Nonprofit Organization" or one of the two authorized abbreviations ("Nonprofit Org." or "Nonprofit.")

All Agency users of Permit No. 1 for Bulk Rate Mail [Standard Mail (A)], your permit imprint should read as follows:

PRESORTED STANDARD
U.S. POSTAGE PAID
PERMIT NO. 1
BOISE, ID

or

PRSRT STD
U.S. POSTAGE PAID
PERMIT NO. 1
BOISE, ID

All permit imprint mailings submitted after January 10, 2001 that display the Bulk Rate marking will be refused. All mailings must bear the new Presorted (PRSRT) Standard (STD) markings. If you have envelopes preprinted with Bulk Rate, they cannot be used unless they are reprinted or hand stamped with PRSRT STD.

Nonprofit mailers are not affected by this change.
